Why use your phone as a barcode scanner
Dedicated barcode scanners cost $50–$300 each and only do one thing. A modern phone camera can read the same barcodes in any orientation, in low light, and from a distance. For one-off inventory counts under 5,000 items, a phone is faster, cheaper, and already in your pocket.
What you need
- A desktop or laptop browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox)
- A modern phone with a working camera (iPhone 7+ or Android 8+)
- Wi-Fi or mobile data on both devices (the same network works best)
- 10 minutes for a typical 200-item count
How ScanSheet works in three steps
- Open ScanSheet on your desktop and click Create session. A QR code appears.
- Scan the QR code with your phone camera. The phone turns into a wireless scanner.
- Point the phone at each barcode. Scans appear in the desktop table in under a second. Press Export when you are done.
What happens to your scan data
All scan rows live in the desktop browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded to a server unless you sign in and turn on cloud backup. When you close the tab, guest data stays on that browser only — sign in if you want it to follow you across devices.
