Why scan barcodes into Google Sheets
Google Sheets is the most common spreadsheet on the planet. Most small businesses, schools, and community groups already have a sheet for inventory, attendance, or asset lists. What you need
- A Google account (only required if you want the result in your own Google Sheet)

How to connect your phone in 60 seconds
- On the laptop, open scan.skycang.com and click Try without signing up.
- Click Create session. A QR code appears on the laptop screen.
- On the phone, open the camera app and point it at the QR code.
- Tap the link that pops up. The phone's browser opens with a camera viewfinder.
- Tap Start camera. The phone is now your wireless scanner.
Scan your first barcode
Point the phone at any barcode — a product box, a book ISBN, a printed asset tag. The phone beeps and the row appears in the laptop table within 300 milliseconds. The barcode value, a timestamp, and the running quantity are all captured automatically.
Two ways to get the data into Google Sheets
Option A — Free: CSV → Google Sheets import (2 clicks)
- Click CSV in the top toolbar. A .csv file downloads.
- Open your Google Sheet, click File → Import → Upload, and drop the file in.
- Choose Replace current sheet or Insert new sheet. Done.
Option B — Pro: one-click direct export
Pro users can click Export to Google Sheets in the top toolbar. ScanSheet creates a new sheet in your own Google Drive, fills in the columns, and returns a link you can share. The whole flow takes about five seconds for a 500-row export.

Privacy and data storage
All scan rows live in your laptop browser until you explicitly export. ScanSheet does not see your barcodes, your Google Sheet content, or your product data. The only network traffic is the encrypted WebSocket between your phone and your laptop — there is no third-party relay.

Do I need to install an app on the phone?

Will the same barcode be counted twice?
No. ScanSheet auto-merges duplicates. The second scan of a barcode increments the quantity on the existing row instead of adding a new one.

Can multiple phones scan into the same sheet?
Each session pairs one phone to one laptop. If you need multiple scanners, open multiple browser tabs and create a separate session in each.
Does this work offline?
The phone can scan offline — scans are queued and sent when the connection is restored. The laptop browser must be open and online to receive the scans in real time.
